Many Busy Days

A writing celebration has to be the best way to finish up a writing unit!  At the end of the unit, everyone looked through their writing pieces and decided on one piece to 'fancy up.'  This was the once piece that they wanted to share with the class.  Once that piece was chosen, it was colored, letters were fixed and everyone practiced reading.  The next day we celebrated this writing.  Everyone gathered in a circle and we took turns reading our writing.  Then we hung our writing in the hall for the whole school to see.  We ended our celebration with cookies and juice and a toast!  Writing celebrations are my favorite part of Writer's Workshop!
Our writing hanging in the hall for all to see!

Look at all that writing!

Odd and Even Street

In our last math unit we touched on odd and even numbers.  Last week we revisited odd and even numbers by creating 'Odd and Even Street.'  Everyone created an 'Even' house.  We decided that these houses were boring and all looked the same.  Then we created an 'Odd' house.  These houses were crazy and different and wild.  The houses were glued onto the street.  As we glued the houses down, we talked about how the houses were glued down in a pattern-one even house, one odd house, one even house, one odd house, and so on.

Thanks to Mrs. Ridgley at http://mridgley.blogspot.com/ for sharing this idea!  It was so much fun to do!
Thanks for your patience as I juggle teaching, being a wife and mom and try to keep up with the blog.  I have good intentions to post each night but I just never seem to get around to it!

Thanks for all of your support to make First Grade a great place to be!!
