Majority Rules

Election season has come and gone.  Last week, our students had several opportunities to vote.  We started the week listening to the First Grade Student Teachers' campaign speeches.  One student teacher dressed up as an Oreo Cookie, another dressed up as a Chocolate Chip cookie.  Oreo and Chocolate Chip gave their campaign speeches to First Graders.  On Wednesday, each First Grader voted for their favorite cookie and received an 'I Voted' sticker.  After school the votes were counted and the winner is.....

On Thursday we ate the winning cookie, Oreo, at lunch!  The election always gets the kids excited about voting and deciding which cookie to vote for.

In our classroom we talked about elections.  We talked about how the candidate that receives the majority of votes, and we talked about what majority means, wins the election.  Then we did some more voting.  Students had to listen to two choices and then choose one thing to vote for.  The choice that received the majority of votes won.  After we voted, we illustrated the choice that won the majority of votes.  Below are a few of my favorites.
